. . Non-Legal Ceremonies For those who can't be or choose not to be legally married: Spiritual Unions Ceremonies of CommitmentMarriages of the Heart Same-sex Ceremonies . Rev. Robert is frequently asked to officiate a wedding ceremony with no marriage license. Please be aware that that is illegal; however you can still have an almost-traditional ceremony. How to do this is explained below. . For Whom Is this Type of Ceremony Appropriate? For a variety of reasons, some couples have need and/or desire for a God-sanctified union that intentionally excludes the state's legal binding contract. Retirees: For example, there are elderly couples who are (and have been for years) in heart-to-heart, God sanctioned marriages that are not legal marriages. These people do not become legally married because if they did, their social security, their pensions, insurance, and/or other financial benefits would be terminated or significantly reduced. Same Sex Couples: Until religious prejudice subsides, same sex couples will continue to be denied the rights, privileges and responsibilities of heterosexual couples. Private, Personal Commitments: There are also hundreds of thousands of couples who consider their private, personal commitment to each other to be just that -- private and personal. They intentionally avoid becoming bound by the government's rules and regulations. . |

. What Is the Real Marriage Please remember that the real marriage is a heart-to-heart union between two people. This is true regardless of age, gender, religion, or ethnic origin. It's true in spite of all the legal piggily wiggly put out in the name of saving the world from the devil. It's always been that way, and there is no evidence that this is about to change. . Staying Legal and Celebrating Your Love: Celebrating your love is still possible in spite of what the would-be-do-gooders say, or do, or pass into secular law. Here's what is required: 1) Prior to the ceremony, the couple must sign a statement acknowledging that the ceremony on the day of their celebration is a spiritual and religious celebration. It is a union in the eyes of God and is NOT by the rules of men. The ceremony is intended to have absolutely no legal significance. It is a covenant between the couple and God. 2) On the wedding day and near the beginning of the ceremony, the above statement of intention is spoken by the officiant to the guests so that they understand that the ceremony is a religious ritual only. It is also preferable to avoid using the word marriage unless it is openly defined for its use the context of the couple's personal ceremony to mean "a spiritual union in the eyes of god only -- a covenant between the couple and God ." . . |
