. . Three Aspects of Marriage . As you probably already know, there are three parts to a marriage, the heart-to-heart union, the public declaration, and the legal contract. What you may not know is that you can have any one alone, any two by themselves, or all three together. Rev. Robert is frequently asked to participate is two of them. . Heart-to-Heart Union: This is the real marriage. It comes from your commitment to another person. It is the feeling within you and the commitment you declare to each other that makes this person your primary partner in life. Marriage unions are the primary source of mutual-support communities that you'll find all around the world. Your union is created by you and your partner by declaration. It did not exist before the two of you created it. No one else needs to be involved. A marriage union is commonly created within the context of a larger mutual support community, but that's another story for another time. ... Public Declaration: The second aspect of a marriage is the public declaration. This is where you go before your community of family and friends and openly declare your the commitment you have already pledged to each other. It's also where you ask your community support your commitment. The Legal Contract: The third aspect of a marriage is where the bride and groom go to the government and asks to be legally married according to the laws of whatever state (or country) the couple is in. . |

. Agreements:When people talk about prenuptial agreements, clouds cover the sun and cold winds begin to blow. Nobody wants to even consider the possibility that their upcoming marriage will be among the fifty percent that ends (on average) in four years if no children are involve and in seven years when children are involved. Most people simply ignore this possibility and have no contingency plan regarding what they will do if their marriage bliss turns to something other than (or quite the opposite of) wedded bliss. Well, while the people slept, the government lawyers stepped in, and in their own inimitable fashion, provided a contingency plan for you, which of course, put them in a position to collect money from you if you ever needed to alter their contract. That legally binding contract is called a marriage license. Most people sign a marriage license with the same abandon that a child has on Christmas morning, BUT. . . . What Is A Marriage License? Your marriage license is a pre-nuptial agreement. It is the government's pre-nuptial agreement. When you sign a marriage license, you are actually agreeing to be bound by the laws in a several-hundred-page, legal document called "Marriage and Family Law." It was written by lawyers, it is administered by lawyers, and guess whose interest is first and foremost in that document. Lawyers, of Course! Let the signers beware! . . |
